Win as though you’re used to it …

“Win as though you’re used to it and lose as if you like it.” -Isabella Stewart Gardner

For me, this quote packs a great punch. How do you show up? How do you handle success? Adversity? We often talk about winning or losing gracefully. But in this simple line, I hear something slightly different and more powerful. Own your achievements with pride, as if winning is your standard M.O. Relish your losses; share them like a good story.

Then learn from it all.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my fascination with the author of the quote, the inimitable Isabella Stewart Gardner, the late creator of my favorite museum. She was an iconic American patron of art, a publicly bold woman who is often remembered as progressive, straightforward, formidable, discerning and determined. All great qualities for holding your head high as you enter the room.
